THE Kraft Foods Group has announced the voluntary recall of nearly 250,000 cases of Kraft macaroni and cheese dinner due to the possibility that some boxes may contain small pieces of metal.

According to Kraft Foods, the recall only applies to the 7.25oz boxes of the original flavour product with a “use by” date of September 18 to October 11, 2015.

The company claimed the boxes of possibly metallic mac and cheese will have a code of “C2” beneath the “use by” line. Kraft officials added that some of the boxes could be in multi-packs with varying codes.

In the recall notice Kraft says it has in recent days received notifications from eight consumers that they had been affected by the product, but the group claimed no one had been injured.

“Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it,” the notice said. “They should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund.”

The recalled product was distributed nationwide in the United States, Puerto Rico and some Caribbean and South American countries – but not to Canada.

Last night, The Tribune was not able to verify if any local stores had received any of the tainted shipment. Residents are asked to be vigilant when purchasing any 7.25oz box of Kraft macaroni and cheese to ensure that they are not affected.
