More than 68 swimmers competed in Swift’s annual Open Racing Swim Championships at Silver Cay on Saturday.

“Now that open water swimming is a CARIFTA and CISC event it has seemed to spark a lot more interest. The triangular course started and finished at the Palm Cay beach and allowed for good spectator viewing,” said a press release.

“The three courses of 800 metres for eight & under and the 1.67K and 5K for 12 & under and the 13-19, and 20 & over age groups saw swimmers as young as five-year old Logan Roberts and as old as 82-year old Percy Knowles in competition. Open Water Swimming is taking on an identity of its own and the experience and strategy learned will help prepare us for the regional international meets,” said the release.

The top three male finishers swimming with a site on Carifta battled it out in the 5K race. Meshach Roberts took the top spot in 1:09.02 over Alec Sands in 1:10.24 and Keith Lloyd in 1:10.40.

In the eight & under race, covering 800 metres down the beach and back, were Salena Gibson in 16:28.75 for first and Logan Roberts in 20:03.82 for second in the girls. In the boys, first place went to Jake Thompson in 17:21.68 followed by Daniel Clivio in 21:15.49 for second.

In the 1.67K (I mile ) course the following results were posted for gold, silver, and bronze medal positions.
