Atlantis eyes rebound following 'soft May'

ATLANTIS is forecasting a “soft May” followed by a ‘marginal’ pick-up in June business, its top executive telling Tribune Business that July and August were projecting to be much stronger.

Brookfield Hospitality’s president and managing director, George Markantonis said that following a particularly strong Easter period, the resort was anticipating a soft May.

“Easter was a particularly strong period for us, much better than last year, albeit Easter last year fell in the month of March,” said Mr Markantonis.

“For the summer we are expecting a soft May and a flat June. May traditionally is a soft month because many of the families are back at school. This year, probably because of timing issues, we have less groups on the books as well.

“June is flat according to to our projections. We expect to see a marginal pick-up in business in June followed by a much stronger July and August.”

Mr Markantonis said Atlantis was getting set to launch some “massive” promotions in the US and Canada, beginning on May 20.

He added: “We have announced our concert and comedy series through June, but are working on a spectacular full concert event over the Labour Day weekend.”

Speaking on the resort’s $5 million sports book, Mr Markantonis said: “The sports book is doing well considering it only opened in September of last year.

“It’s been very well received by our sports-loving customers, and we expect it to go from strength to strength in the coming months.”
