LIKE MOST deejays, Krino “DJ KD” Deleveaux’s inspiration to get behind a mixing board stems from his love for music.
DJ KD told In Ya Ear he gets the chance to express his love for music every time he plays. His journey in music began in 2011 and has been positively progressing since then in terms of skill and experience.
Just recently, DJ KD participated in Stoli’s Most Original DJ Competition. The competition was open to men and women over 18 who believe they are the most original and talented. Each person submitted a 15 to 20-minute demo that included Bahamian music, hip hop, R&B, pop/top 40, reggae/culture and soca.
From the submissions, 20 finalists were chosen and had their demo featured on the 100 Jamz Thunderstorm party. Listeners had the opportunity to vote for their top 10, who then had a chance to mix live on the Thunderstorm.
DJ KD was one of five deejays chosen to go head-to-head in the finals.
He remembers his experience playing live on 100 Jamz, saying just the thought of his music sets being broadcast to thousands of people was amazing.
“I gain a lot of inspiration from radio deejays, period, and I am definitely inspired by local and international deejays. I am especially inspired by scratch deejays like our local DJ Redz, DJ Fines, and internationally, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the late DJ AM,” said DJ KD.
He said deejaying is a long-term career goal for him and he plans to take it as far as possible. He enjoys working in different genres such as hip hop, R&B and pop.
“I also cover reggae, dancehall, soca, Bahamian and dance music, which are my favourite genres, even though I love hip hop, R&B and pop as well. I don’t have much to say on the entertainment scene in the Bahamas because I like what I see in terms of the Bahamian people’s need for entertainment,” said DJ KD.
