THE Bahamas government yesterday declared its support for the nuclear deal struck by the international community and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A statement issued from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday welcomed the nuclear deal fostered between the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China, as well as the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the use of nuclear energy by Iran – the Iran Nuclear Deal.

According to the statement, the Bahamas stands in support of the right for sovereign states to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes in accordance with international norms.

It read: “The Bahamas believes that dialogue is the most effective tool in resolving disputes.”

In the deal, Iran agreed to transform its deeply buried Fordo Plant into a research centre for scientists and reconstruct its Arak reactors to end the ability for the devices to create weapons-grade plutonium.

In addition to those agreements, the new deal enlisted the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to act as the authority on Iran’s adherence to the international regulations.

The statement continued: “We express our confidence in the efforts of the IAEA in this matter. The Bahamas hopes that all sides will honour in good faith their commitments and fulfil the Agreement.

“The Bahamas supports the nuclear agreement between the US and Iran and aligns itself with the other supporters of this historic agreement,” it added.

Earlier this month US President Barack Obama announced that an agreement had been reached with Iran to, over time, limit the country’s chances of producing nuclear weapons.

Our Freddy Boy thinks he's smarter than the entire U.S. Congress which has yet to approve the deal. But China told our Christie-led PLP government to support the Iran-nuclear deal (which will end up letting Iran have nuclear weapons no later than ten years from now) and so our Freddy Boy did not think it necessary to wait and see whether the U.S. government (as opposed to the U.S. executive office) supports the deal. After all, in Freddy Boy's mind China trumps the U.S. in all international matters as far as our Christie-led PLP government is concerned. Wow!
