Search halted for missing US kayaker off Eleuthera

AUTHORITIES have halted the search for a Massachusetts man who disappeared while kayaking off The Current, Eleuthera, on Tuesday night.

The US Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force said that the man's kayak and life jacket had been found. But Coast guard spokesman Mark Barney said on Thursday that their air search had been suspended on Wednesday evening after a full day of searching.

Officials said the 64-year-old man had been staying with family on Eleuthera. He set out on Tuesday around 7pm from The Current and his family contacted authorities when he did not return about a half hour later. His name and hometown have not been released.

The 18 to 20 foot Tiger Shark that many fisherman have seen in the waters between New Providence and Eleuthera over the last decade or so probably devoured this poor fella....may well be the same Shark that left no remains of that lawyer, Tony Hepburn, to be found off of Lyford Cay. The Bahamian government should seriously consider hiring an expert to hunt and kill this monster man eating shark given that there have been so many sightings of it in recent years.
