Perennial contenders for the GSSSA Junior Boys title, the DW Davis Royals regained a familiar spot atop the league as they reclaimed the championship title.
The Royals completed an undefeated season and closed out a two-game sweep over the CH Reeves Raptors, 48-33, last night at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
Lavardo Dean nearly outscored the entire Raptors team with a game high 23 points to claim the MVP award.
Also for the Royals, Kenvon Farrington scored seven while Gerry Delva chipped in with six.
Prince McPhee and Terran Miller each finished with nine points to lead the Raptors.
After losing a heartbreaking three-game series last year to the HO Nash Lions, Royals head coach Mark Hanna said his team came out with a single goal in mind – finish the job this time around.
“We had a team meeting before the game and really we talked about it from the beginning of the season.
“We just knew everything we played for was all about how we had to get back to this point in the season and finish it. CH Reeves is a good programme. We know they have a good team, they have a good coach, but we had to come out and work – we can’t let CH Reeves ruin the undefeated season.”
DW Davis opened the game on a 13-0 run in the first quarter, nine of which came from Dean.
They took a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and would never relinquish the advantage en route to the championship title.
The Royals took game one 33-30 Tuesday night.
