Help fathers like John

EDITOR, The Tribune

John has been the primary caregiver for his nine-year-old daughter for the past five years. The child was born out of wedlock in The Bahamas and has spent her whole life here, but does not have Bahamian citizenship. Nor does she have the citizenship of her foreign mother.

His daughter’s lack of status is a constant source of frustration and anxiety for John, whose only hope may be to take the extraordinary step of applying to adopt his own daughter. On June 7, vote yes to Bill #3 and help fathers like John pass on Bahamian citizenship to their children.
