THE Bahamas men’s national beach soccer team is scheduled to square off against European powerhouse Switzerland in the Kalik Light Cup April 8-9 at the Bahamas Football Association’s (BFA) Beach Soccer and Futsal Facility at the foot of the Sidney Poitier Bridge in New Providence, Nassau.
“The squad has been in training for several months,” said Fred Lunn, Bahamas Football Association general secretary, adding that the team has ramped up their practice schedule to daily tactical training in anticipation of squaring off against No. 6-ranked Switzerland. “This is the first step in the team’s preparation for the FIFA 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup.”
With the recent addition of Angelo Schirinzi as Bahamas’ head coach, long regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on sand-based soccer, as well as the addition of the No. 1 ranked player in the world, Heimanu Tariarui, the team is confident they will perform well.
“The event will offer fans the opportunity to see their favourite players face off against top-ranked, world-class players,” Lunn said.
Twelve players will be selected from the following squad to represent The Bahamas against April’s tourney against the Swiss: Torin Ferguson, Alex Thompson, Keith Miller, Renardo McCallum, Dwayne Forbes, lashane Dean, Gavin Christie, Justin Hoffer, Daron Beneby, Julian Smith, Christopher Davis, Ehren Hanna, Ivan Rolle, Kyle Williams, Lesley StFleur, Timmy Munnings, Jean Francios, Valin Bodie, Dominic Bannister, Amo Cartwright, Dolcin Absolu, Gregory Simms, Jarad Higgs, Riche Bolivar and Jamar Townswend.
Kick-off time for each match is 5:30pm. Entrance to the event is free and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For ticket information, contact the BFA Office at 328-7666.
