GRAND Bahama recorded its first traffic fatality on Friday when a male pedestrian was killed in an accident in Freeport.
According to reports, the victim was hit by a tour bus sometime around 8am while at the roundabout at Coral Road and West Settler’s Way.
Police and EMS personnel responded, but the victim had died at the scene. The area was cordoned off by police officers, and a blue tarp was placed over the victim in the road.
Traffic was re-routed off West Settler’s Way and Coral Road, delaying the morning commute for motorists, and created road jams along various small side streets.
The Tribune understands that the deceased is known as “Bunny.” The tour bus driver involved in the accident is an employee of H Forbes Charter, which operates a tour bus charter service on Grand Bahama.
This is the second incident in weeks involving tour bus drivers employed with the company.
A few hours later, a second tour bus crashed into utility poles in the area of Seven Hills on the Ridge.
Last week, an H Forbes Charter tour bus went off the road and crashed into the Club Amnesia Building on the Mall Drive. The driver was not injured, but the vehicle had significant damage.
Last Sunday, a fire occurred at the tour company on Queen’s Highway where several vehicles were destroyed.
Police are investigating the incidents.
