Track and field team all set for IAAF U-20 championships

SPRINTER Joel Johnson has been listed as one of the competitors to watch when the International Amateur Athletic Federation’s Under-20 Track and Field Championships takes place from Tuesday to Sunday in Tampere, Finland.

Johnson headed Team Bahamas that left town on Saturday. He will be joined by Adrian Curry in both the 100 and 200m. Corey Sherrod is entered in the 400m, Oscar Smith and Denvaughn Whyms will provide a 1-2 punch in the 100m hurdles, Branson Rolle will be the lone competitor in the 400m hurdles and Jyles Etienne and Kyle Alcine will be matched in the high jump.

On the girls’ side, Jaide Knowles will contest both the 100 and 200m.

In addition, she will have some company in Kayvon Stubbs in the 200m.

Sasha Wells will carry the flag in the 100m hurdles, as well Charisma Taylor in the triple jump.

The team is being managed by Margo Major with James Rolle as the head coach, assisted by Rashad Patton and Ednal Rolle.

Nadia Gilbert is the team doctor and the physio-therapist is Michael Armbrister.

Johnson and Curry are set to kick the action off for Team Bahamas in the first round of the boys’ 100m when the championships open on Independence Day.
