The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) is celebrating International Girls in ICT Day by sponsoring the all-girls conference for high school students organised by sector regulators.
Four BTC team members will take part in the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) event, which is being held under the theme Expand Horizons, Change Attitudes.
Vochelle Ferguson, senior manager of people; Carole Barnett, senior manager of advertising, sponsorships, events and branding; Lorraine Gay, manager of service of delivery; and Sherry Rolle, senior manager for business continuity, will participate in the day’s agenda. Also present will be Kiante Stuart, BTC’s junior achievement president.
Garry Sinclair, BTC’s chief executive, said: “We are happy to celebrate International Girls in ICT Day. BTC has proudly supported these annual celebrations since their inception locally.
“Vochelle, Carole, Lorraine, Sherry and Kiante will do a great job talking to our students about the benefits of female participation in the ever-evolving ICT field. BTC remains committed to harnessing the best talent in the world. Just last month we celebrated International Women’s Day, recognising the many contributions of our team members across the business.”
According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), more than 357,000 girls and young women have taken part in 11,000 celebrations of Girls in ICT Day in over 171 countries. This year’s event will feature speakers and workshops with topics including ‘Marine Archaeology on the Blockchain’, robotics, programming and coding. There will also be a Shark Tank sales pitch.
Hundreds of students have been invited to attend the event, which will take place at the British Colonial Hilton.
