GRAND Bahama Police are investigating an apparent drowning of a male tourist on Friday afternoon at Deadman’s Reef Beach in West Grand Bahama.
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after 2pm when a man started experiencing difficulties while snorkeling. The victim was later discovered to be unresponsive.
ASP Terecita Pinder said EMS personnel and a doctor from the West End Clinic were called to the scene where the man was pronounced dead.
She said police are actively investigating the matter.
MALE SUSPECT CHARGED
A 20-year-old male resident of Eight Mile Rock was charged in the Eight Mile Rock Magistrate’s Court on Friday with attempted murder.
Devano Hanfield appeared before Magistrate Gwendolyn Claude on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm. He was not required to enter a plea to the charges which are indictable offences.
The case is in connection with a shooting incident at Eight Mile Rock that occurred on Monday, the first day of 2019.
Hanfield was remanded in custody at the Bahamas Department of Corrections in New Providence until March 28 when a preliminary inquiry will beheld.
HOMICIDE VICTIM
Grand Bahama Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed on December 18 in Grand Bahama as David St Fleur, 49, of Inagua Avenue.
St Fleur was discovered at his home by a friend around 10am with gunshot wounds in his body. The friend contacted the police. His death was classified as a homicide – the seventh death on the island for 2018.
St Fleur is believed to be of Haitian nationality, a senior police detective had reported.
ASP Terecita Pinder said the matter is still under investigation and police are appealing to the public who can assist them with any information to call anonymously at 919, crime stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477) in New Providence or 1 -242-300-8477 in the Family Islands.
