A TEENAGER who was caught rolling marijuana joints was given a curfew and granted $1,000 bail before his sentencing.

The 16-year-old appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes after officers said they found him with $1,320 worth of Indian hemp on November 25.

During his arraignment he pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous drug possession with the intent to supply.

The court was told that officers proceeded to a residence in the Haitian Village near Dignity Gardens around 4pm on the day in question. Upon their arrival, they knocked on the door of a residence and showed the accused a search warrant. During their investigation, officers discovered ten clear plastic bags with suspected marijuana in one of the bedrooms.

The youngster was subsequently arrested and taken to the Drug Enforcement Unit. In an interview with police there, he said he was aware that the drugs were in the home, but claimed he was only assisting with wrapping the joints.

After listening to the prosecution’s facts, Magistrate Forbes said he would invite representatives from the Department of Social Services to prepare a probation report before he sentenced the teenager.

As a result, he placed him on a curfew which requires him to be home by 6pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends and granted him $1,000 bail until March 10.
