A 28-year-old man who admitted stealing $672 worth of car parts from a man’s vehicle was yesterday remanded into custody before his sentencing.
Police arrested Derico Bowe after he stole two front headlights out of Brian Newman’s Nissan Note on April 19.
He owned up to the offence during his hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis.
The court was told that Mr Newman had realised that someone had stolen parts from his car that was parked in front of his residence around 6.35am that morning. After he reported the matter, police acting on information came across the accused and arrested him. He was then taken to the Elizabeth Estates Police Station where he admitted the offence. The court was told Bowe also took the officers back to the scene and pointed out how he was able to steal the headlights. The prosecution said the parts were never recovered because Bowe admitted to selling them for a “quick sale”.
During the hearing, Bowe begged for leniency and said he was willing to compensate Mr Newman for the headlights. However, Magistrate Rolle Davis noted the accused was currently on bail for another offence of a similar nature. As a result, he said he would defer Bowe’s case to April 27 for sentencing. The accused was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional services until then.
