DAVID Nesbitt made his debut for Boca Juniors in the FIBA Basketball Champions League Americas and helped lead the club to a 1-1 weekend in Group D.
The veteran forward scored a game-high 22 points to lead Boca Juniors to a 71-62 win over Universidad de Concepion in Buenos Aires on December 11. He shot 9-15 from the field, including 2-7 from three-point range.
In the weekend’s opener, Nesbitt finished with six points and four rebounds in an 88-66 loss to Flamengo on December 10.
Nesbitt continued his momentum from the first window of the FIBA World Cup ‘23 Americas Qualifiers last month when he averaged 15 points per game in a pair of losses to Canada.
Locally in Argentina’s Liga Nacional de Básquet, Nesbitt is averaging 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game en route to a 6-2 start. He is currently shooting 57 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range.
In the season opener, Nesbitt finished with a season high 16 points and three rebounds in a 75-72 win over Argentino.
He moved into the starting lineup in game two and finished with eight points and four rebounds in an 82-71 win over Regatas. He also totalled 12 points and four rebounds in a 77-68 win over Olimpico.
Nesbitt made the move to Argentina after a four-year tenure in Brazil’s Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB).
The veteran 6’6” forward spent last season with Minas. In 31 games, he averaged 10.4 points and 5.5 points per game en route to being named an NBB All-Star.
Minas finished with the second best record in the league, reached the semifinals, and finished third in the FIBA Basketball Champions League Americas Final.
He scored 10 points and eight rebounds in the third-place game and Minas defeated Sao Paulo 75-58 at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center in Managua, Nicaragua.
Minas finished second in Group D during the BCL Americas group stage at 2-4. Through four games, Nesbitt averaged 9.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He also shot 41 percent from three-point range.
