Cubans detained and brought to capital

A GROUP of Cubans migrants were brought into the capital yesterday afternoon after they were apprehended in the southwest Bahamas by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

While on routine patrol, HMBS Rolly Gray under the command of Lieutenant Themo Berkley observed an eight-foot makeshift vessel approximately four nautical miles south of Anguilla Cay on Tuesday.

Further investigations uncovered five Cuban nationals onboard.

They were subsequently transferred aboard the RBDF craft and brought to the capital, where they were handed over to the relevant authorities.

The Cuban Embassy has since been notified.

This is the second group of Cuban nationals to be apprehended within the past week. Fifteen Cuban nationals were apprehended by the US Coast Guard after being sighted on Anguilla Cay on Tuesday June 22. They were subsequently brought to the capital.
