Jonquel Jones and her UMMC Ekaterinburg Foxes needed some late game heroics, but they rebounded from last week’s Super Cup final loss to remain undefeated in the FIBA Women’s EuroLeague.

Jones’ posted a double double - 15 points and 11 rebounds - in the Foxes 75-73 win over ZVVZ USK Praha yesterday at DISV Sport Hall in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Jones went head-to-head against fellow Connecticut Sun teammates Brionna Jones (17 points, eight rebounds) and Alyssa Thomas (17 points, seven rebounds).

The Foxes trailed 73-72 with just six seconds remaining before Alexandria Bentley made the game-winning three pointer as time expired.

UMMC are unbeaten both domestically in the Russian Premier League and in the EuroLeague Women, where they stand at 4-0 after wins against BLMA, TTT Riga and Umana Reyer Venezia earlier this month.

Jones joined the club in week three with 19 points and nine rebounds against BLMA.

The Foxes only loss on the year was against Valencia (73-66) in the Super Cup final in Valencia, Spain.

Praha, a perennial contender in the Czech Republic, fell to 2-2 in EuroLeague play. UMMC will return to EuroLeague play on November 2 when they will travel to face KSC Szekszard in Szekszard, Hungary.

The Foxes, favoured to repeat as EuroLeague champions for the seventh consecutive year, boasts a roster that also includes Brittney Griner (Phoenix Mercury), Breanna Stewart (Seattle Storm), Allie Quigley (Chicago Sky) and Courtney Vandersloot (Chicago Sky).

UMMC concluded last season undefeated and scored an average 91 points per game in that span and more than 100 points in four of those games.

Jones averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in EuroLeague play.

She also shot 74 percent from the field and a league-leading 62 percent (8-13) on three-point field goals.

Jones’ extended offseason last year included three championship titles with the Foxes. They claimed their sixth FIBA Women’s EuroLeague title.

The Foxes’ season of milestones also included the Russian Premier League title for the 15th time in club history, and for the 13th consecutive season, along with the RFB Super Cup.
