A WOMAN was remanded to prison yesterday after she was charged with stabbing her boyfriend in his right eye.

Brendamae Lewis, 41, is accused of committing the act on March 24.

According to the prosecutor, the man is listed in serious condition and could potentially lose the eye.

However, Lewis pleaded not guilty to the offence of causing grievous harm.

When the question of bail was brought up, the Crown prosecutor objected to the woman’s release, saying he wanted to confirm whether the accused had any pending matters or outstanding warrants.

As a result, bail was deferred to Friday.

Lewis was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until that time.

In a separate matter, a man accused of punching a woman at a local restaurant was charged with causing harm yesterday.

Phillip Smith, 41, appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis after he allegedly caused harm to Shonique Reckley while at Arawak Cay on April 19.

This comes after an incident captured on video went viral last week.

The one-minute-long video begins with the woman, who appears to be a waitress, wiping down tables.

A man seen in green then enters the restaurant and later punches another worker in the face, who then falls to the ground.

Another man could later be seen trying to restrain the attacker before he flees the scene.

However, as he leaves the restaurant, the woman throws an item which looks like a shoe at him.

During yesterday’s hearing, Smith denied the allegations and the matter was adjourned to June 28 for trial.

He was granted $1,000 bail with one surety.
