A MAN was arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his underaged sister.

The 20-year-old man appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux where he was charged with one count of incest.

On June 29, 2019, in New Providence, the defendant is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with his then 14-year-old sister.

Due to the nature of the offence, the accused was not required to enter a plea. He was informed by the court his case would proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

While the defendant was denied bail, he was told that he could apply for it again through the Supreme Court, where his case will ultimately be heard.

Until such time as bail is granted, the accused will be remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS).

The 20-year-old male will return to court for service of his VBI on July 25.
