American teen accused over nightclub attack

By PAVEL BAILEY

AN American teenager was arraigned on charges of disorderly behaviour and multiple counts of causing harm after attacking three women at a nightclub.

Taylor Cannon, 19, of New Jersey appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux facing charges of disorderly behaviour, obscene language, resisting arrest and three separate counts of causing harm.

On March 12 around 3.10am at Bond nightclub in Baha Mar, Cannon was reportedly behaving in a disorderly manner over losing her phone. As she was escorted from the nightclub by Stephanie Williamson, she attacked Ms Williamson as well as two other women, Dennisha Saunders and Kristina Adderley.

When officers came to the scene, Cannon cursed at Sergeant Cox and resisted arrest.

In court, Cannon pleaded guilty to all charges against her.

Cannon’s attorney Bjorn Ferguson told the court that alcohol played a factor in his client’s behaviour and that she was remorseful for her actions.

He told the court that Cannon had arrived in the country on March 8 for spring break and was supposed to leave on the 13th. He said she is a university student under the care of her parents. Given these circumstances and the fact that his client had no prior offenses as well as her early plea of guilt, Ferguson asked the court not to impose a custodial sentence on her.

In consideration of these facts, Magistrate Turnquest-Deveaux cautioned Cannon on the disorderly behaviour, obscene language and resisting arrest charges.

The magistrate, however, gave Cannon a conditional discharge on the three causing harm charges ordering her to compensate Williamson, Saunders and Adderley $1,000 for the attacks or face three months in prison for each of the three charges if she fails to pay.
