Four back in court accused of bid to kill two policemen

FOUR men who were charged last week on other criminal matters, were denied bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday after being further charged with the attempted murder of two police officers.

Roger Wallace, 28, Shaquille Monroe, 29, Raequon Alexis, 18 and Aljaron Stubbs, 19, stood before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on two counts of attempted murder of the officers.

The accused also faced further charges of possession of firearms, use of a firearm to resist arrest, two counts of using a firearm to endanger life and causing damage.

On April 30 in New Providence the accused were alleged to have attempted to kill Sergeant Seymour and Police Constable McKenzie with a black Glock 17 and an AK-47. On that same day they are also alleged to have caused $988.66 worth of damage to a police vehicle.

Due to the serious nature of these offences none of the suspects was required to enter a plea in court.

The accused were further informed that these latest charges would also proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

In view of the accused’s latest charges after being previously arraigned for having a prohibited weapon and ammunition last week, their attorney Ian Cargill formally withdrew his clients’ bail applications.

As such, they will be remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections until their next trial appearance on October 19.
