DAVID Mindorff, the principal of the Lyford Cay International School, died suddenly yesterday morning, the school announced.
His cause of death was not immediately known.
Mr Mindorff became the principal of the school in July 2019. He and his family were deeply involved with the Lyford Cay school: His wife, Dr Michèle Mindorff, is the university and upper school counsellor and their four children, who all graduated from LCIS.
Mr Mindorff was the teacher and head of the secondary school from 2009 to 2016 before moving his family to China, where he worked at Leman International School in Chengdu as head of the secondary school and later the principal.
Mr Mindroff received the Gerald Cash National Distinguished Teacher Award and was a principal examiner for the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
The Lyford Cay school was dismissed at 2pm yesterday. After-school activities were also cancelled after the principal’s death.
“We will miss Dr Mindorff’s cheerful smile and his deep love and commitment to Lyford Cay International School and the International Baccalaureate community,” the school said.
