Bethesda Medical Mission partners with PHA to provide free dental services in Grand Bahama

THE Public Hospitals Authority announced that Bethesda Medical Mission Inc will provide free medical and dental services in Grand Bahama from February 19 to 26.

The initiative is a partnership between the Public Hospitals Authority, the Ministry for Grand Bahama, and the BMM, a Christian humanitarian organisation based in Connecticut.

A team of medical professionals and volunteers from BMM will provide medical services at the Rand Memorial Hospital and local clinics in Freeport.

Various services will be offered, including teeth cleaning, fillings, extractions, oral cancer screenings, and distribution of oral care items. Additionally, there will be pediatric, adult, obstetric, and gynaecological care, as well as the provision of prescription drugs and vitamins.

The initiative was led by Pastor T Basil Sturrup, a Bahamian clergyman currently residing in Ellington, Connecticut. Dr Roy Kellerman, one of the founders of BMM, expressed his excitement about the opportunity.

Bethesda Medical Mission Inc. provides humanitarian aid worldwide, making a difference in the lives of many in countries like Haiti and Puerto Rico and across the United States.

Jessica Cartwright, the hospital administrator at Grand Bahama Health Services (GBHS), has expressed excitement about collaborating with BMM to enhance access to healthcare on the island.

“We know that for some members of our Grand Bahama community, there are some real challenges in accessing health services. I hope that through this initiative, persons who require care will access that care and improve their health and quality of life,” she said.

Minister for Grand Bahama Ginger Moxey expects the initiative will positively impact the community.

“We are delighted to join forces with Bethesda Medical Mission Inc. and the Public Hospital Authority, as this initiative aligns with our mission to advance health, wellness, and healthcare accessibility for the people of Grand Bahama,” she said.

The initiative will culminate with a Health and Wellness Fair that will be held on February 24, from 10 am to 5 pm at the Freeport Seventh-day Adventist Church. The event will offer health screenings, physician consultations, health lectures, and community engagement activities for residents.
