Infant dies after allegedly falling inside swerving car

A TEN-MONTH-OLD girl died early Friday after allegedly falling from the front seat of a car when the driver swerved to avoid another vehicle on Prince Charles Drive.

Police said the infant had been travelling unrestrained in the front seat of a 2013 Nissan Versa shortly before 3.45am when the driver allegedly made the sudden manoeuvre, causing her to fall to the floor of the vehicle.

The man, who police said was the boyfriend of the child’s mother, later took the infant to her mother in Nassau Village.

According to police, the pair fed the child before noticing that she appeared to be in distress.

They then took her to hospital.

Medical personnel told police the infant arrived unresponsive and bleeding from the mouth.

She was rushed to the trauma unit, where several medical professionals attended to her.

Police said the child sustained bruising to the left side of her face and head, as well as a fractured femur.

Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at 4.16am.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
