FNM candidate Loretta Butler-Turner pledged to tackle problems facing Long Islanders in her bid to become the first woman elected to the seat.
Mrs Butler-Turner visted her hometown as a candidate hopeful on Friday and was met by a cheering crowd.
Sitting MP for the area, Larry Cartwright said: "It turns out that for the first time in Long Island's history, the best man for the job is a woman."
Speaking to a cheering crowd, Mrs Butler-Turner said: "Long Island it's time for you to make history. Let's take care of your problems, solve your issues. It's time to show them what we're all about!"
Mrs Butler-Turner will face Progressive Liberal Party canddiate Alex Storr and Mario Cartwright, Democratic National Alliance, in the upcoming general elections.
