CHURCH of God of Prophecy bishop and national overseer Dr Elgarnet B Rahming encouraged and urged all eligible Bahamian citizens and church members to register to vote at the 91st Annual Convocation of Fellowship and Diocese, last Monday.
Celebrating in praise and thanksgiving, the members joined to salute people, young and old, throughout the Bahamas, for remaining focused, faithful, resilient, resourceful and steadfast in their commitment and contribution to the church community and country.
As he has done on numerous occasions, Bishop Rahming said he urge people to register as quickly as possible, if they have not done so as yet.
"There is a feeling that the window of opportunity to register to vote is fast closing. Do not tarry any longer. Prepare yourselves to participate in this most critical aspect of our democratic process by registering to vote as a matter of urgency," said Bishop Rahming.
No one can afford to be left out in the upcoming elections due to irresponsible procrastination or the lack of interest in the future governance of this country, he said.
Speaking to audience members and people watching the convention online, he reiterated that the Bahamas is in need of everyone's participation. "The almighty God requires your participation," he said.
Calling upon voting members of the Church of God of Prophecy and all eligible Bahamians, he advised: "Firstly, check out the integrity, track record and qualifications of the candidates; find out their purpose for running for political office, and find out their vision for the improvement and sustainable development of your area. Your vote is precious."
Do not despise your vote and do not sell your vote, he said.
He also asked that persons pray and seek God's guidance and direction before voting. "When God would have impressed upon you how to vote, I say, vote and voice your choice with a clear conscience," he said.
God is not the author of confusion, he said. "God's direction of your next member of parliament and, by extension, his choice of your next Prime Minister and elected government will be the best choice for our country and people at this time."
Calling upon the political candidates, Bishop Rahming asked that they all run a fair, honest and decent campaign." He encouraged them to avoid "slingling" and personal attacks on opponents.
"The Bahamian people are now well educated, knowledgeable and politically sensible and will not be moved to vote for or against someone because of such tactics," said Bishop Rahming.
"Let us all pray for peaceful, safe and honest general elections," he said.
