Celine Dion's first on Caribbean soil

By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer THE COUNT down is on, with less than ten days until French Canadian superstar Celine Dion touches the stage at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival. The three day event which takes place at the Trelawny Stadium from January 26-28, is known to bring together talented international and regional artists every year. This year, The Art of Music organisers have signed on Celine Dion, Cee lo Green, Shaggy and many more acts, who are all generating interest with Bahamian music enthusiasts. "I love the vibe of Jazz and Blues music. Couple that with the beauty of Jamaica and that's a winning combination for sure. Top it off with Celine Dion, one of the premier voices in this world and I'd say sign me up right away!" said Robert. This will be the first time French Canadian superstar Celine Dion performs in the Caribbean, according to a Caribbean News Now report. "I am looking forward to doing my very first show in the Caribbean and this is an honor for me to perform at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. What a beautiful way to meet the people of Jamaica on this, my first trip to the island. I just can't wait," said Celine Dion. Event chairman Walter Elmore said it took some "jumping through hoops" to successfully attract the music icon to the festival. "Usually you would have to go to the United States to see Celine Dion, but I think it is very cool she is going to be close to home," a Bahamian fan said. Also hitting the stage at the festival is Nicole Henry, Heads of State, Jully Black, The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, Gentleman, and some Jamaica's finest musical talents, including, Richie Stephens, John Holt, Yellow Man, Half Pint, Tessanne Chin, Tami Chynn and Marcia Griffiths. "The festival caught my interest when I saw that Celine Dion is headlining the event. I am interested in going to the festival. The beautiful setting and great music is the perfect combination. I don't have no money just yet but if I come across some I will be there," said a wishful Bahamian. As the country will celebrate its 50th anniversary of Independence, the opening night of the festival is dedicated to the rich sounds of Jamaican music: ska, rocksteady, dancehall and reggae. "I have been to this festival several years ago and there were some great acts and great performers. The show is just as good as they market it to be. I am looking forward to attending the festival this year and the lineup is just amazing. Celine Dion, Cee lo, Marcia Griffiths, Richie Stephens, what an awesome combination of musicians. This one will be one to remember," Rose said.
