"THE Making Of A Band - A history of the world famous Bahama Brass Band" is the latest book released by Authorhouse, one of the largest publishing companies worldwide. The 230-page book tells the history of one of the oldest church marching brass bands in the Bahamas and Caribbean.
"The Bahamas has a rich history and culture in marching bands for over 100 years. Thousands of our citizens in some way or form once participated in a marching band in this country, so I think this is a great celebration for the Bahamian culture" said the author G. Sean Gibson.
The Bahama Brass Band was started in 1925 in the Church of God of Prophecy and organised by four ministers of the gospel. The band has traveled extensively playing before large crowds in church arenas.
For over 70 years the Bahama Brass Band has been ministering in the church's worldwide General Assemblies in Cleveland, Tennessee and other parts of the United States. Consequently, the band has become the official band of the General Assembly.
The book was written by G. Sean Gibson, a former assistant director of the band and member of the church brass band ministry for over 27 years. It was edited by Tameka Lundy, associate editor of the College of The Bahamas in the Office of Communication.
It details the band's humble beginnings and also gives an overview of the Church of God of Prophecy's history in the Bahamas.
The book is currently available online, and will soon be available in local stores.
