THIRTEEN Dominican fisherman were apprehended on fisheries violations by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force this weekend.
The foreign group are suspected of illegally fishing in the Ragged Island chain after they were discovered by RBDF patrol vessel HMBS Nassau on Friday.
Spotted 34 miles east of Cay Lobos, the Dominican registered vessel contained an undetermined amount of fisheries product, according to an RBDF statement sent yesterday.
The vessel, La Susy and her crew, were being escorted to the capital, where they will be turned over to the relevant authorities for processing.
The press statement read: "The Royal Bahamas Defence Force maintains its commitment in protecting national borders against illegal activities. They wish to thank the local fishermen for assisting in this latest apprehension, and take serious, every report of illegal activities or sightings within our borders."
