REPORTS from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, say that lawyer Chalmers "Chal" Misick was arrested on Tuesday and detained overnight. Misick is the brother of former Turks and Caicos Islands premier Michael Misick. Caribbean News Weekly said Thursday that the report of Misick's arrest came from "reliable legal sources". According to Caribbean News, Misick appeared in Magistrate's Court Wednesday and was charged with laundering $2.7m for his brother, Michael. Considered a flight risk bail was set at $2m on condition that he does not travel by boat or plane, checks in to police every morning and sleeps in his residence every night. It was claimed Misick is facing additional money laundering charges totalling about $14 million. It is said that another brother, Washington Misick, also a former chief minister, is trying to arrange bail for him. A special investigating and protection team in the Turks and Caicos are looking into allegations of government corruption on the island.
