FOURTEEN-year-old Dionisio Carey has won two gold medals and a silver in the Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympic Short Course Swimming Championships.
The three-day event was hosted by Coral Springs Swim Club in Florida March 9-11.
Carey broke his Florida Gold Coast Open and Florida Gold Coast 13-14 50-yard backstroke record with a swim of 24.40 for the gold. He also struck gold in the 100-yard back with a time of 54.26. The silver medal came in the 50-yard breast in 28.92. He clocked personal best times in other events.
According to a press release, the young, talented swimmer was invited to be a member of the Florida Gold Coast Swimming All-Star team. "He will be competing in that meet March 23-24 in Fort Pierce, Florida. He will swim the 100-yard back, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle and relays," said the release.
Carey was recently named as a member of the Bahamas Swimming Federation's 2012 Carifta team - the BSF will host the event at Betty Kelly Kenning Aquatic Centre April 12-15.
