A MOTHER of four claims she was held at gunpoint and robbed by a group of men in broad daylight yesterday. She believes they were police officers.
Speaking with The Tribune on condition of anonymity, the mother said she was driving on Soldier Road between 12:30pm and 1:30pm when a black Ford Explorer pulled in front of her vehicle. Getting out of the jeep, she said, were two large men brandishing weapons across their chests.
One of the men approached her window, while the other went around to the passenger side. While the men did not identify themselves as police officers, the mother said the way they acted when they first approached her left her with no doubt as to who they were.
The first man, she said, instructed her to open her car doors as the second individual, who had approached her passenger side began to search the car. During this search, she said, the second man exclaimed that the bag on the passenger seat appeared to be one that could "contain some cash".
Taking the bag, the man grabbed her cellular phone as his "colleague" instructed her to "keep her eyes down."
"It all happened so fast. They said they would shoot me if I looked up. So I didn't even see when they left. I think the guy at the passenger door left first and the other one stayed at my door telling me to look down or he would shoot me," she said.
The bag which was stolen reportedly contained almost $1,700 - money that had been saved for her rent and other utility bills.
High-ranking officers within the police force were made aware of the incident yesterday and have made an appeal for the mother to come in and file an official complaint. Up until press time last night, the complaint had yet to be filed.
