Neymour to bid for deputy leader role

By CELESTE NIXON Tribune Staff Reporter cnixon@tribunemedia.net FORMER FNM MP and Minister of State for Environment Phenton Neymour has officially announced he will be seeking the FNM deputy chairman post during this weekend's FNM convention. In press statement released yesterday, Mr Neymour said political losses do not equate to political defeat, but rather present opportunities for change, growth and development. Mr Neymour said he feels it is his civic responsibility to do what he can to assist in the further development of the country and empower the Bahamian people. "The Free National Movement now finds itself in a position requiring an analysis of its losses at the polls and the need to develop a young and energetic team with innovative initiatives. Most importantly, the FNM is requiring strong and experienced leadership guided strictly by the desires of the Bahamian people," he said. "I have firmly held the view that with citizenship comes national responsibility. Since an early age I have been molded by the principle, instilled in me by my father, that as one becomes more empowered one must seek to empower others," said Mr Neymour. "It is this principle that has motivated me to continue to uplift my country and empower as many Bahamian citizens as I can possibly reach though my civic and political efforts." After consultations, Mr Neymour said, he decided to remain active within the party and seek the FNM deputy chairman position. During this time of re-organisation, he said, he intends to assist in re-building a strong FNM foundation. "Being a young chemical and environmental engineer with extensive experience throughout the Bahamas," Mr Neymour said, "it is felt that my technical background and knowledge of the Family Islands can bring renewed focus on restoring and building the base of the FNM necessary for returning this great party to governing this beautiful country."
