Savannah Brady, in her first season competing as a Level 6 gymnast, should be congratulated for her outstanding accomplishments in the sport thus far.
The 10-year-old and her coach Lavette Saunders attended the Sun & Surf Spectacular Gymnastics Invitational in Coral Springs, Florida, on January 27.
And the Nassau Nastics student performed exceptionally well at the event, one of the many meets hosted by Twister Gymnastics Club in Fort Lauderdale.
"This popular meet attracted 30 gymnastics clubs representing over 600 athletes. Savannah was the token gymnast representing Nassau Nastics at this meet and she competed along with 14 other gymnasts in her age division at USAG Level 6, level 10 being the highest level followed by elite," according to a press statement.
This is Brady's first season competing as a Level 6 gymnast. She began the season at the Atlantis Crown Invitational at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island December 16-18 last year.
Head coach Trevor Ramsey said first meets can be very difficult for "our gymnasts, especially those who do not have the opportunity to travel abroad consistently to attend gymnastics competitions and this was made quite apparent by her scores at the Atlantis Crown Invitational."
In the Atlantis event, Brady's performance earned her an 8.3 on the vault, 8.0 on the balance beam, 8.0 on floor and a disappointing 5.4 on uneven bars, giving her an all- around score of 29.775.
"However, after her first warm-up meet here at home, Brady now has a newer realization of how much work she had to do in a short amount of time, resumed training at her gym, Nassau Nastics.
"Brady was determined to do better at her next meet, which is exactly what she did. She raised her overall score to 33.20," said the release.
"I was so happy with my bar score because I really wanted to do better than I did at my last competition, and I did," she said.
At the Sun & Surf Spectacular, Brady scored 8.3 on the vault, 8.4 on the beam, 8.6 on the floor and on the bars she scored 7.9 which was a great improvement from the 5.4 bar scores at the Atlantis Crown.
Saunders was very proud of Brady's performances at the Sun & Surf Spectacular. "Savannah came down with a temperature of 103 degrees on the day of the competition and we were not sure if she was going to pull through. I asked Savannah if she would be able to compete and she said in a determined voice that she didn't come all this way for nothing. I was so proud of her," said the release.
