THE Sea Bees swim club is scheduled to host its Winter Invitational meet of the 2011/2012 season at the Betty Kelly Kenning Aquatic Center on Saturday.
The meet is slated to begin at 9am and is co-sponsored by Apex Awards Signs and Engraving.
"We are excited to host our first swim meet of the 2011/2012 season," says coach Lucas Leite.
"The meet promises to be an exciting one as we will be hosting mixed relays which are always thrilling."
The Club had to postpone its fall meet due to the BKKAC not being operational but the club's swimmers are eagerly waiting to jump in at the Olympic-size pool.
"Our swimmers have not had as much time in the water due to the cold weather recently, but we have compensated with land training and that has proven to be a success," Leite said.
"A number of our swimmers swam personal bests in the Swift meet recently, so we're confident they will perform well next week," he added.
The meet will also feature a number of the clubs' Learn-to-Swim participants that have moved up and will be competing for the first time.
"We want to expose our new swimmers who are just getting into competitive swimming by competing in one of their own meets which we feel will be beneficial to them," says Keith Lloyd, head of the club's technical committee.
The Sea Bees swim club placed second in the June 2011 RBC Nationals which was no small feat considering the club was one of the smallest Nassau-based clubs to compete with less than 55 swimmers.
The club has produced swimmers that have represented the Bahamas in such notable events as Carifta, Fina World Junior Championships and the Youth Olympics.
The parent-run club is coached by Lucas Leite and trains at the College of the Bahamas.
