Tribune celebrates its inspiration

THE TRIBUNE hosted a celebration this week to honour publisher Eileen Carron. The party marked both Mrs Carron's eighty-second birthday and coincided with her being commended by the International Press Institute (IPI). Earlier this month, the IPI announced they would be posthumously honouring Mrs Carron's father, Sir Etienne Dupuch, for being the world's longest serving editor after a 54-year career. But in a letter this week from the IPI, they also recognised Mrs Carron for her "never-ending commitment to free press and the highest journalistic standards". The IPI noted that Mrs Carron is not only "a courageous and fearless journalist, but also as a wife, mother, lawyer and pilot". "You are truly an inspiration to women all over the world and IPI is proud to count you as one of its members and supporters these many years," the letter said. The award for Sir Etienne will be presented at the IPI World Congress 2012, to be held in Trinidad and Tobago in June.
