THE NPVA commenced its championship Sunday night at the D W Davis gymnasium.
In the first match, the Johnson Lady Truckers appeared to be on a mission and got off to a good start, winning the the first 2 sets 25-16, 25-21, however, the defending championships Scottsdale Vixens were not prepared to lose in straight sets or even to lose the game and regrouped to win the next 3 sets 25-19, 25-12 and 15-13.
Cheryse Rolle Led the Vixens with 19 points for the win, with sister Krystel Rolle securing 12 points.
In a losing effort, Melinda Bastian was strong for 17 points with both Tia Charlow and Kelsie Johnson finishing with 11 points.
In the men's match, the Scotiabank Defenders would jump out on the Technicians winning the first 2 sets 25-21 and 25-22, the Technicians, not wanting to go home early would win the 4th set 25-19, however, after watching the women's match, the Defenders would come from behind in the 4th set to win 25-14, after a big performance from Enderick Rahming and Lahaundro Thompson.
The Scotia Defenders were led by Shederick Forbes, who scored a game and side high 19 points with assistance from Shonari Hepburn, 9 points and 3 blocks. In the loss Renaldo Knowles finished with 17 points.
Both defending champions lead the series 1-0, with game 2 set for Wednesday evening at the D W Davis gymnasium.
