The first victim, a St Alban's Drive man, was chased down and shot dead on his doorstep early yesterday morning.

The 29th murder victim for the year has been identified as 32-year-old Humphrey Tynes.

Police say Tynes was outside his apartment just after midnight when he was approached by a masked man.

Neighbours told The Tribune they heard someone shout "Run!" just before gunshots rang out.

Tynes is said to have tried to run into the house, but was pursued and shot several times. He died just inside his doorway.

Head of the Homicide Unit, Superintendent Paul Rolle said police have no leads or suspects in the case.

He said: "We are still actively investigating this murder and we are confident we will come to a conclusion. At this time no one is in custody but we are still talking to several people to determine a motive."

When The Tribune arrived on the scene, a few moments after the murder family members and friends of the victim were crying and consoling each other outside the house.

A crowd also gathered at the scene of yesterday's second murder, which took place on Dorsett Alley off West Street, at around 6pm.

According to community activist Rev CB Moss, the area is colloquially known as "Babylon" and has been the scene of three or four murders in recent years.

Sgt Chrislyn Skippings said the victim, believed to be in his mid 20s, was also shot several times and died at the scene.

Members of the crowd said the 30th murder victim for the year lived in Rupert Dean Lane, but was known to many of them. He was shot outside his cousin's home.

One woman said: "I've known him since he was a little boy. He was quiet, shy, never had much to say for himself."

Residents in the area identified the victim as Noel "Noey" Roker.

Police are appealing to members of the public who might have information regarding either shooting contact them by dialling 919, 322-3333, 502-9991, or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 328-TIPS.

Meanwhile, police have several people in custody in connection with the country's 22nd homicide.

Eugene Stuart, 36, was shot to death outside his Faith Avenue home last month.

Supt Rolle said: "We have a couple people in custody and we feel good about our developments. We expect to wrap this case up very soon."
