FREEPORT - More than 26,000 Bahamians have registered to vote in Grand Bahama in the general elections.
On Tuesday, the House of Assembly was dissolved, and the Parliamentary Registration Department closed the new register, ceasing all registration of voters.
Denise Pinder, assistant parliamentary commissioner, reported that as of April 2, about 26,618 Bahamians had registered in Grand Bahama.
In the five constituencies, 5,559 persons are registered in Central Grand Bahama; 5,521 in West Grand Bahama and Bimini; 5,495 in Marco City; 5,077 in East Grand Bahama; and 4,966 in Pineridge.
In the Family Islands, about 26,533 citizens have registered. In New Providence, some 117,784 persons are registered.
These figures put the national number of registered voters at about 170,984.
