THE FNM's Michael Pintard told Cat Islanders their community has incredible potential for economic development, especially in agriculture and food processing.
Speaking on Saturday to a crowd of supporters at the FNM's rally in Arthur's Town, Mr Pintard said "visionless and uncaring representation" by the PLP has resulted in little development and resources going to waste.
"Couldn't we transform agriculture in Cat Island? Couldn't we transform food processing in Cat Island?" he asked.
"At the end of the day, we could produce juices, we could produce jams, bottled and canned products so that persons who are unemployed could have an opportunity to generate a living."
The candidate told residents that their current MP, Philip 'Brave' Davis, who has held the seat for more than a decade, wrongly convinced them the island could not be further developed without the PLP being in power.
Mr Pintard also pointed to the island's unique beauty and rich culture, which he said is capable of attracting visitors and locals alike.
Kareem Hanchell, a local business consultant for SDC Bahamas, agreed with the Mr Pintard regarding the island's potential.
He said he was in Cat Island checking out what it had to offer, and was impressed.
"The purpose of me being here was to meet with a few wonderful business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
"As a consultant, they wanted me to come down and see what type of life is here in Cat Island and I am glad to report that their is vast amount of opportunities."
Mr Hanchell said he plans to tell entrepreneurs around the country who are "looking to making something happen" that Cat Island is definitely "something to keep an eye on".
