Ingraham claims PLP is ashamed of Perry Christie

PRIME Minister Hubert Ingraham yesterday claimed the PLP was ashamed of Perry Christie and no longer wanted him as their party leader.

Addressing a crowd of supporters in Cooper's Town, North Abaco, Mr Ingraham said the PLP candidates were promoting themselves and "hiding" Mr Christie.

"The PLP don't want him. You can see that in the posters. There are hardly any posters of him.

"They are seeking to hide Christie as much as they could.

"We are not going to let Christie hide. We will put him out there," he said.

The Prime Minister also said he would complete a full term in office if re-elected - unlike Mr Christie who said he would only serve two years.

"He had pressure on him from the party so he said he would serve two years. Now he doesn't have that pressure he said he changed his mind.

"He knows how stupid it was to say it in the first place. It was a stupid statement," he said.

"Why would someone ask the people to vote them in for four or five years then in the middle of it change their minds?

"From the Bahamas' point of view, they should believe his first story which is, if elected he would only serve half a term. I will serve my entire term. I will serve as long as the people want me," he said.

Mr Ingraham also clarified speculation that he was against setting a fixed date for elections.

He said: "It is not up to me to decide that. This is a system put in place by the government of the Bahamas, who happened to have been the PLP at that time. They created this, they had it for six terms when Pindling was alive.

"They had it when Christie was in office. Now because I am in office they want change.

"In order to change it you would have to amend the constitution, you would need two thirds of the majority in the House of Assembly and it would have to go to the people in a referendum. I just want the facts to be known to the people."

Looks like his true intentions of always wanting to hold onto power has now come out of his own damn mouth - “"I Hubert A Ingraham will serve ‘as long’ as the people want me.” Even though this is the same man who said that “no” prime minister should think they have a right to serve on past their two terms in office, we now have this specter of political game playing. Has he got no shame at all when he now attempts to use his well known bully platform to question the credibility of not only a man who was his trusted law partner but was also entrusted to look after the financial affairs of their law practices. If this is not the height of pure butcher shop baloney, then pray tell me what is? I tell you what Mr. FNM PM, once the natives have once again rejected your well oiled and corporate financed FNM regime, your own damn FNM’s will feed on you like the flesh- eating fish you were, eating away at Tommy after your own reputation was defeated by the natives back in 2002. PM is it any wonder that the 60,000 out of paychecks natives trust in your FNM regime’s has dropped to an all-time low. I mean if you are prepared to hold onto power at all costs, even if it means inflicting lies upon your former trusted law partner. You are doing the same enact thing with Kenneth Russell, or anyone else, once you have no further use for him.
