THE Bahamas Judo Federation (BJF) is scheduled to hold its annual Judo National Championship at Xavier's Lower School 11am Saturday.
This year, according to BJF president D'Arcy Rahming, athletes (students) from five clubs and two islands are expected to compete for the title of national champion in their respective divisions which are based on weight and age.
"I am particularly pleased with the development of judo in Abaco. Coaches Al Lil and Regina Parotti have really developed the programme there and this promises to be a great tournament with a lot of healthy rivalries," he said.
The tournament will come on the heels of the BJF elections where the core team is running unopposed for re-election.
"The last four years have been good development years in which we went from a country with only recreational judo to a respected regional competitor. In the next four years, we want to field three youth Olympians and at least one Olympian at the senior level," said Rahming.
