THE National Emergency Management Agency said it is pleased with the progress of reconstruction in the Family Islands most affected by Hurricane Irene.

NEMA director Captain Stephen Russell led an assessment team to Acklins over the weekend to inspect 12 homes under construction there.

The team travelled from Salina Point up to Chester's and Lovely Bay, where a massive shipment of building materials landed four weeks ago.

They checked that the houses were being repaired according to the national building code, and that anchor bolts and hurricane clips were correctly installed.

A similar inspection will be carried out in the coming weeks on Rum Cay, Cat Island, San Salvador, Long Island and Abaco, NEMA officials said.
