FREEPORT – Local film makers will have a chance to showcase their work at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival on Grand Bahama in October.

Tourism officials are encouraging film makers interested in participating in the FLIFF to submit their films before the deadline – 5pm today.

There are four film categories: High School, College, Open Bahamian Short, and Open Bahamian Feature.

Contestants are invited to submit their entries to fliff@bahamas.com, PO Box F-40251, or directly to the Ministry of Tourism’s Grand Bahama Office on the first floor of the Fidelity Financial Centre, Poinciana Drive.

Finalists must provide 30-second and 60-second trailers of their films in HD format, and must supply five copies of their production on playable DVDs, along with two data discs containing the movie files in .mov or .avi file formats.

Films in every category must be produced in HD format. All contestants will be able to see the status of their entry via the Bahamas Film Commission: Grand Bahama’s Facebook page – facebook.com/GBIFilm.

Last year, 12 film makers from New Providence and Grand Bahama submitted films that were featured at the festival.

For a second year, FLIFF on Location will be held on Grand Bahama, October 25-28. The organisers plan to showcase an expanded film competition while on the island and have called for original films nationwide for competition in the four categories.

Donna Mackey, senior manager for film development at the Ministry of Tourism, said entries have been submitted in each category.

FLIFF on Location will be held at Pelican Bay Hotel. There will be local and international films, outdoor screenings, the presentation of a Career Achievement Award, specialist workshops including underwater cinematography, location scouting for international filmmakers, and a wrap party/awards presentation at the Grand Lucayan Resort.
