OFFERING art education for both children and adults of all ages, “The Place For Art” considers the craft as a process, rather than a product. Participants are able to enjoy art experiences, from visual art techniques to exploring the various elements and principles of art and design in a fun way.
According to organisers, once a child or adult begins to explore art, there is no turning back or stopping, since art becomes a passion. “At The Place For Art, students work in a noncompetitive, stress-free environment. The young students come after school or on Saturday mornings, full of excitement and energy. With class sizes limited to six students, each student is able to receive personal attention in an art studio setting,” organisers said. The classes are designed and instructed by K Smith, leading pencil artist and art educator. K Smith has over thirty years of teaching experience in Canada, The United Kingdom, and The Bahamas.
Adults can take part in one of six levels of drawing classes, hands on integrated artist study and activities designed to involve creativity and imagination, as well as stimulating visual awareness and originality. Speaking about the program’s accomplishments, organisers said: Many parents recognize that their child has a talent or gift for the visual arts and very often will enrol them in specialized art education environments. During the eleven years of operation, The Place For Art has had the honour of having several high school students win first place, second place, and honourable mentions at the annual Central Bank of the Bahamas High School Art Competition.”
