WITH the shock-waves of FNM Chairman Charles Maynard’s death still resonating throughout the country, Deputy to the post Dr Duane Sands yesterday said it was still too soon to speak about who would be its successor.

The party had elected two deputies during its post election party convention in May. Darron Cash, who was the FNM’s Carmichael candidate, was also elected to the post.

With Maynard’s sudden death, Dr Sands said everyone was still grappling with the loss of a giant of a man.

“While I can say that there would be some constitutional guidelines that must be addressed, at this point no decision has been made. His death is still so fresh to us and it is difficult. For now the role of chairman falls on myself and Mr Cash,” Dr Sands said.

Mr Maynard died suddenly in Abaco early Tuesday morning. He was 42 years old.

Mr Maynard was serving as the co-ordinator of the by-election campaign in the North Abaco Constituency and was driving with Party Secretary General Michael Foulkes in the area of Blackwood, heading into Dundas and Murphy Towns, at about 12.30am when he complained of feeling ill and collapsed. He died shortly after he was taken to the Treasure Cay Clinic.

I never did agree with much of Comrade Charlie's political stands but certainly respected him for sticking to his political guns.

Apparently, the "Original" Hubert A couldn't being himself to return back to the House to stand and pay his respect to his former red shirts Chairman. After all the last time I checked the fisherman/lawyer from Cooper's Town is "still" a sitting member of the House? Maybe too busy cruising to play poker, yet he never did anything to allow natives to play poker at home?
