MORE than a year after a known charity worker was killed inside an apartment, a man who was her then lover is expected to stand trial today charged with her murder.
Prince Hepburn, a 50-year-old contractor, is due to appear before the Supreme Court charged with murder. It is claimed that between April 6 and 7 in 2011, he caused the death of Nellie Mae Brown.
Brown, the 42-year-old former president of the Bahamas Heart Association, was found dead in the kitchen of an apartment complex at Bougainvillea Blvd, South Beach, with multiple stab wounds. Parts of her body had been dismembered.
Hepburn, her partner at the time, was charged in connection with the death six days later when he was arraigned in the magistrates’ court, around the same time that controversial photos of Brown’s mutilated body surfaced on the internet.
In June last year, according to then national security minister, Tommy Turnquest, action had been taken against those involved in the leak of crime scene photos of the charity worker’s death.
Following a letter from Bishop Simeon Hall, of New Covenant Baptist Church, to the head of police and copies to the Attorney General and National Security Minister regarding the leak, the minister said it had been dealt with.
However, up to November last year, when Hepburn was arraigned before Senior Justice Isaacs to receive a trial date, Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade had not revealed the findings of the investigation into the leak or whether anyone was disciplined in connection with it.
Such information still has yet to be revealed.
The trial is expected to start today when a jury will be empanelled to hear the evidence.
