Prince Hepburn, a 50-year-old contractor, is now scheduled to appear before Justice Indra Charles on October 1, where a jury will be empanelled to hear the evidence of more than 20 witnesses concerning the April 2011 death of Nellie Mae Brown.

Hepburn, handcuffed and shackled, was flanked by policemen as he was escorted to Supreme Court yesterday.

When the hearing began at 10.30am, defence attorney Murrio Ducille noted that the trial into a robbery of the John Bull Rolex Boutique had been ongoing since May.

Mr Ducille asked the judge if Hepburn’s trial could be put off to a date in the near future.

Justice Charles asked the prosecution about the status of the case and the relevant documents.

Prosecutor Franklyn Williams said the matter was ready for trial, and all documents had been served to the defence.

He further indicated that the prosecution had no issues with Mr Ducille’s suggestion of another date for trial.

The new date was announced after a private conversation between Justice Charles and the attorneys in the judge’s chambers.

It is claimed that on April 6 or 7, 2011, Hepburn caused the death of Nellie Mae Brown, the 42-year-old former president of the Bahamas Heart Association.

She was found dead in the kitchen of an apartment on Bougainvillea Blvd, South Beach, with multiple stab wounds.

Hepburn, her partner at the time, was charged in connection with the death six days later when he was arraigned in the Magistrates’ Court.
