FREEPORT – A man has been detained for questioning in connection with the discovery of a quantity of copper wire which is believed to have been stolen from a ZNS transmitter site.
Assistant press officer Terecita Pinder reported that police were near the Queens Highway around 7pm on Friday when they found the wire.
The man was also arrested in this area.
Last Sunday, around $10,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from the ZNS transmitter site on Settler’s Way.
ZNS officials reported that transmission of its radio station 104.5 FM failed because of the theft.
Copper theft has been ongoing issue here on Grand Bahama, particularly for major companies such as BTC, the Grand Bahama Power Company and the Grand Bahama Shipyard.
Police also made several arrests over the weekend in West Grand Bahama as part of ‘Operation Night Hawk’.
At around 1am in Holmes Rock, a man was detained by officers in connection with the discovery of a firearm.
He is also being questioned about reports that a gun was fired in public, and claims that a man resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer.
Two persons were detained on claims of causing damage; one in connection with an outstanding warrant and 10 in connection with drugs and firearms investigations.
